By studying in Taiwan, I’m right in the center of the semiconductor industry, giving me exceptional chances for hands-on experience and direct exposure to the latest developments.

Taiwan: Perfect Plan to Learn Semiconductor

Taiwan is home to one of the world's largest markets for semiconductor research and technology. By studying here, I am positioned at the heart of this thriving industry, which provides unparalleled opportunities for hands-on experience, research collaboration, and exposure to cutting-edge developments in semiconductor technology. Additionally, the bilingual environment—where students and professors commonly speak both English and Mandarin—creates a dynamic and inclusive learning atmosphere. This not only allows me to leverage my proficiency in English but also offers an invaluable opportunity to learn Mandarin, a language that is becoming increasingly important in today’s globalized world.

Choosing Semiconductor at National Tsing Hua University

The College of Semiconductor Research at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) stood out to me because of its meticulously designed program, which caters to both industrial and academic objectives. The curriculum provides a comprehensive understanding of semiconductor research, covering both theoretical foundations and practical applications. The program’s structure ensures that graduates are well-prepared to excel in diverse career paths within the semiconductor industry or pursue advanced academic research in the field.

My favorite place on campus is the library. The environment there is perfect for deep focus and learning, with comfortable seating, ample natural light, and a serene atmosphere that fosters concentration and productivity. Additionally, the library’s extensive collection of resources, including books, journals, and electronic databases, provides invaluable support for academic research and exploration.

Overcoming Challenges: Turning Obstacles into Motivation

I arrived in Taiwan without any prior knowledge of Mandarin, so the greatest challenge I’ve faced so far is the language barrier, especially in courses that are exclusively taught in Mandarin. However, I view this as a powerful motivator to enhance my Mandarin proficiency. Recognizing the importance of these courses for my academic and professional goals, I’ve adopted various strategies to overcome this challenge, including seeking help from classmates, dedicating time to language practice, and using online resources. I am committed to learning the language and aim to communicate fluently before I graduate.

Taiwan’s Research Environment & My Significant Achievement

One of the most rewarding aspects of studying in Taiwan is the dynamic research environment. The country is renowned for its advancements in fields like semiconductor research, which aligns perfectly with my academic interests. Being part of this thriving research community exposes me to cutting-edge technologies, innovative ideas, and collaborative opportunities with leading experts in the field.

During my time in Taiwan, I participated in a significant academic project sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and launched by MOOCS-NTHU (Massive Open Online Courses - National Tsing Hua University). The project revolved around offering an online course titled “Thermodynamics of Solid State,” which is considered essential in the field of Materials Science.

As a moderator for the course, I worked closely with Professor Perng Tsong-Pyng, assisting in preparing course materials, moderating discussions, and evaluating the performance of enrolled students. This experience allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the academic community while honing my organizational and communication skills.

Sharing Taiwan: Culture, Food, and Nature

Taiwan’s culture is a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, offering a unique and enriching experience. I admire how the culture embraces both its rich heritage and contemporary innovations. I’ve had the privilege of exploring numerous temples in Taiwan, each offering a unique glimpse into the country’s rich cultural and religious heritage. From the grandeur of historic temples to the serenity of hidden sanctuaries tucked away in bustling cities, every visit has been a journey of discovery and reflection.

Outside of my academic pursuits, I find immense joy in exploring Taiwan’s natural beauty and diverse landscapes. I’ve had the chance to visit captivating cities like Hualien and Taichung, each with its unique charm and attractions. However, my favorite city in Taiwan is undoubtedly Taipei. Its vibrant energy, bustling night markets, cultural landmarks, and modern amenities make it a fascinating destination with endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.

If I were to recommend Taiwan to my friends and family, I would highlight two aspects that I particularly love: its breathtaking landscapes and its delicious cuisine. Taiwan’s natural beauty, from its lush mountains to its pristine coastlines, leaves a lasting impression. Additionally, the diverse and flavorful cuisine—ranging from spicy to sweet—offers something for everyone. Taiwan is a place where culinary exploration becomes an unforgettable experience.

Looking Ahead: Building a Career in Taiwan

If given the opportunity to stay in Taiwan after graduation, I would aim to pursue a career in the semiconductor industry. My academic background and growing proficiency in Mandarin would enable me to contribute meaningfully to this field. I hope to collaborate with industry leaders and researchers to drive innovation and further my expertise in this ever-evolving sector.
