Embracing Taiwan: A Land of Cultural Richness

I chose to study in Taiwan upon a friend's recommendation. The scholarships Taiwan offers to international students are indeed promising. Furthermore, I believe Taiwan is one of the most welcoming countries in Asia.

I've loved art since I was young, and Taiwan is a true melting pot of culture. This means that the arts in Taiwan draw from not only Asian influences but also Western and Aboriginal cultures. When I applied to the university, I prepared a short portfolio showcasing my previous work, which helped me secure a full scholarship from the school.

Enjoying the Culture and the Surroundings

I enjoy strolling through the city, observing old houses in various neighborhoods. Taiwan's architecture fascinates me, and I often visit museums and exhibitions. I also indulge in small hobbies like crafting accessories or sewing.

I used to hate learning Mandarin when I was a child because I thought it was such a hard language. However, after coming to Taiwan and taking a Chinese language course to prepare for my studies, I discovered that Mandarin is actually quite easy to learn and grasp. I'm now working part-time at our Chinese Language Center and also used to serve on the Overseas Chinese Student committee.

I also love sitting beside the lake and just enjoying the scenery. Sometimes, when I feel tired, I also love to take walks on the campus.

A Welcoming and Promising Experience

I adore Taiwan's culture and its historic buildings. For me, the greatest challenge of living in Taiwan has been homesickness and adjusting to the local cuisine. I often get asked about my Mandarin, primarily because of my accent. But over time, these challenges have become a natural part of my life. I've grown to love Taiwanese dishes, and I've even developed a taste for 臭豆腐 (stinky tofu). Sometimes, my friends even joke that I'm more Taiwanese than they are!

Taiwan is one of the safest countries in the world and has one of the highest GDPs. I love how Taiwan is very welcoming towards foreigners. I would definitely recommend that my friends and family come to Taiwan to experience the food, nature, and education.

If I had the opportunity to stay in Taiwan post-graduation, I would love to find a job that suits my degree and one that are in line with my passion.
