I chose Taiwan for its strong academic resources, the wide range of English-taught programs, the availability of financial aid, the safe and convenient living environment, and the chance to learn a new language.

Taiwan, NCU, and Cognitive Neuroscience

I chose Taiwan due to academic resources, the availability of different programs (offered in English), the presence of financial aid, the environment of safety and convenience, and the opportunity to learn a new language.

Several factors influenced my decision to enroll in NCU’s cognitive neuroscience. The ranking of NCU was encouraging and played a significant role in my decision. The availability of financial support further reassured me that I would not encounter financial frustration.

I had a strong interest in the program I am currently pursuing, and a fellow countryman who had already studied in the department gave a very positive recommendation. The research opportunities available here were also a big draw, and the abundance of resources and tools available to aid research was a huge encouragement. My professor, an expert in his field, also personally invited me to join his lab and participate in research activities.

University Learning Resources and Learning Mandarin

NCU offers a range of learning resources that I find extremely helpful. The staff has always been supportive, and academic events such as conferences provide valuable learning opportunities. Library services are excellent, allowing me to request special papers and books to deepen my understanding of my field.

Learning Mandarin has presented some challenges, primarily due to the lack of a concrete local social circle with whom I could practice the language. Nevertheless, the university has been very supportive, offering Mandarin classes as part of the tuition fee and providing free workshops to help improve language skills.

Favorite Campus Spots

My favorite spot on campus is the lake, which is beautiful and provides a peaceful place to feed the fish and take pictures. I also enjoy the observatory at the main gate, which offers a wonderful view leading to the main street. The sports gymnasium is another favorite, especially the spa and sauna during cooler days. I find the gym invaluable for staying fit, helping me to stay active and healthy.

Projects, Achievements, and Personal Growth

During my time in Taiwan, I have participated in several projects. One memorable experience was the international food festival, where my team and I came third in the food culture competition for international students. It was a proud moment for us. I also performed as a dancer during the Indian Diwali festival in 2024, where I was one of the major performers.

Living and studying in Taiwan has significantly contributed to my personal growth. I have learned to be independent. I discovered how to find solutions to problems and have become comfortable being away from home. This independence has allowed me to enjoy solitude and has contributed to my spiritual growth as well.

Future Plans and Advice for Prospective Students

After graduation, I plan to stay in Taiwan briefly and work while deciding on my next direction, which may include pursuing a PhD in Taiwan. My experience here has had a profound impact on me, opening my eyes to the possibilities of being versatile and applying the skills I have learned, especially in research, across various sectors.

I encourage fellow international students to apply to study in Taiwan. It is a great opportunity and a worthwhile investment in their career aspirations. There are numerous scholarship opportunities, and Taiwan is a very convenient country for international students.
