Through this program, I can dive into the complexities of economics while also taking part in debates and discussions on political issues and conflicts. I couldn’t be happier with this balance.
Choosing Taiwan as a Study Destination
I chose to study in Taiwan for several reasons. Taiwan’s high-quality education system, especially in fields like technology, international relations, and global business, was a significant draw for me. The country offers a unique blend of traditional culture and modern development, which, in my opinion, creates one of the best learning environments. The people are warm and welcoming, and I have experienced their hospitality on several occasions. Studying in Taiwan also allows me to experience a different perspective on Asian and global issues, and of course learning Mandarin, which is one of the most spoken languages in the world.
Economics at Tamkang University
Tamkang University stood out to me because of its international environment. The university offers courses taught in both English and Mandarin, and this diversity extends to the faculty as well. In my department, I have both international and Taiwanese professors, which enriches my academic experience.
I have always wanted to study economics, but I also had a strong interest in politics, making it difficult to choose between the two fields. Fortunately, I found my program at TKU that combines my two biggest interests. Through this program, I am able to explore the complexities of economics while also engaging in debates and discussions about political issues and conflicts. I could not be more satisfied with this balance.
My favorite spot on campus is the library, and there is more than one reason for this. The library offers all kinds of resources, which sadly is not common in my home country. I feel truly grateful to have a place like this where I can focus on studying or simply relax with a good book.
University Support and Learning Resources
Whenever I am unsure about a topic, the university staff are always alert to the possible problems that students may encounter. They provide the best solutions or recommendations, ensuring that I have the support I need to succeed academically.
To support language learning, we have additional Mandarin classes where we can strengthen and practice our Mandarin. There are also cultural workshops, such as multicultural exchange events, where we can practice Mandarin with locals and share our own cultures.
Personal Growth
During my time in Taiwan, I have participated in volunteer work, including serving as an IHL Moot Court Volunteer at the Red Cross Society of Taiwan and conducting restaurant interviews with the Global Workers Organization - Taiwan Immigrants. I have also attended several extracurricular lectures related to my major.
Living and studying in Taiwan has helped me broaden my horizons and gain a clearer perspective. I have grown emotionally and academically. Being far from home has made me stronger and more resilient when facing difficult problems. Academically, I have learned a lot, including a new language, and I am enriching myself with as many experiences as possible.
Future Plans and Career Prospects
The future is uncertain, but I believe that staying in Taiwan after graduation is a good opportunity. The connections I have made and continue to make help me see various opportunities in my field, such as academic collaboration. There are also international opportunities, and studying in Taiwan has given me a broader view, preparing me to engage in international organizations, for example.
Advice for Future International Students
I would say that studying in Taiwan is the best choice they can make, and I encourage them to take the opportunity. I reassure them that they will not regret it at all. Studying in Taiwan is one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I would not change it for anything.
