Honestly, I wasn't planning on studying for a master's degree abroad at first! But one day I came across the INTENSE scholarship for a master's degree in semiconductor technology, sponsored by Micron. It was like a perfect match: Taiwan is close to Vietnam, the living cost is reasonable, the education system is great, and it's a global powerhouse in the semiconductor field. So… why not?
I actually did my bachelor's at National Tsing Hua University, so I was already familiar with Taiwan's top universities. When I moved on to my master's, I chose NYCU because of its strong partnership with Micron through the INTENSE program. It's not just theory here—we get hands-on experience and even internship and job opportunities. It's a solid bridge between academia and the real tech world.
There are three things that I value in this program: the professors, the people, and the possibilities! The professors are super dedicated and really passionate. My classmates come from all over the world, and it's exciting to learn from different perspectives. And of course, the fact that our coursework is linked directly with companies like Micron means we're not just learning—we're preparing for real careers.
Learning Resources and Campus Facilities
I’d say that the cleanroom labs are definitely the most helpful! As a semiconductor student, I spend hours there doing real experiments. But besides that, the 24-hour lab access, academic workshops, and international student support all make studying here more comfortable and productive.
Furthermore, I would say the library is one of my favorite spots! It's quiet enough to study, but also perfect for chilling with friends—or complaining about deadlines together. I also secretly love the cleanroom lab… I call it "my second home with a bunny suit."
NYCU provides abundant resources when it comes to support in learning Chinese. When I first arrived, Chinese characters looked like ancient art to me. But NYCU provides Chinese language classes for international students and offers cultural activities like calligraphy and Micron Mandarin Training courses. That made learning way more fun and helpful.
Achievements & Personal Growth
I've had the opportunity to work on semiconductor reliability research in my lab and co-author academic reports. I was also selected as the 2025 Micron Campus Ambassador, where I promoted recruitment and organized events across Taiwanese universities. It was a great mix of academic and industry exposure.
Since studying and living in Taiwan, I've grown a lot in confidence and adaptability. Living abroad taught me how to communicate across cultures, manage time independently, and handle unexpected challenges. Taiwan helped me become more resilient and open-minded.
Future Plan and Advice for Students
I plan to stay and work in Taiwan after graduation. My studies, especially through the INTENSE Program and lab experience, have prepared me well for the semiconductor industry. Taiwan's strong university–industry link gives me a great launchpad for my career.
My advice for prospective international students would be to stay open, stay curious, and don't worry if you don't understand everything at first. Taiwan is safe, welcoming, and full of opportunities—both academically and personally. Say yes to new experiences, and you'll be surprised how far you grow!
