My ultimate goal is to represent Taiwan in all aspects, giving back to the country that has provided me with so many opportunities for growth and learning.
My decision to study in Taiwan was influenced by several factors. The scholarship opportunities for students facing financial challenges were a significant draw. Additionally, I was eager to learn Mandarin and immerse myself in Taiwan's unique culture. The prospect of meeting new friends and expanding my knowledge of Taiwanese traditions further solidified my choice.
I chose the international health program at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) for its high-quality education and diverse course offerings. The opportunity to learn from quality lecturers with varied backgrounds was particularly appealing, as it promised to broaden my knowledge and experiences.
Two of my favorite places on the NYCU campus are the activity center and the track field at the top of the mountain. The activity center offers numerous opportunities to explore students' talents and hobbies, including a gym, dance facilities, and areas for table tennis and badminton. I frequent the activity center for my daily workouts.
The track field, situated atop a mountain, provides beautiful scenery during the uphill walk. Once at the summit, I enjoy warming up with a slow run to clear my mind. As a member of the NYCU football team, I also practice at the track field weekly.
Prior to arriving in Taiwan, I didn't speak Mandarin. I enrolled in a level II Mandarin course during my first semester, which significantly improved my communication skills. While I'm not yet fluent and took a break this semester, I plan to continue with level III next semester to further enhance my language abilities.
The language barrier has been one of the greatest challenges I've faced in Taiwan, as it can make forming friendships difficult. Some Taiwanese students might feel shy about approaching foreigners, which can compound the issue. To overcome this challenge, I've actively involved myself in various activities such as sports, track and field, gym sessions, and attending different events in Taiwan.
Outside of my studies, I'm passionate about sports and traveling. Sports are an integral part of my life, and I hope to further develop my talents here in Taiwan. The appreciation and motivation I receive from my teammates drive me to improve continuously. Traveling to natural scenic spots like Teapot Mountain, Alishan, and Shifen provides me with peace of mind and allows me to explore Taiwan's beauty.
What I love most about life in Taiwan is the sense of safety, especially compared to my home country. The friendliness and caring nature of the Taiwanese people have also left a strong impression on me. I even had the opportunity to attend a traditional Taiwanese wedding, thanks to a local friend I met.
I've had the pleasure of exploring Taiwanese cuisine, which has been a novel and unique experience. Hot pot has become my favorite dish. Attending the traditional wedding in Puli was also a memorable cultural experience, particularly noting the abundance of food served at such events.
I always strive to accomplish something meaningful in every activity I'm involved in, aiming to be remembered for my hard work and discipline. One significant achievement was helping the NYCU football team secure 4th place in the Medical Cup, marking the first football trophy for NYCU in 12 years. Although an injury prevented me from playing in the semifinals, I'm proud of this accomplishment.
Another goal I'm working towards is inspiring other students to work out. Some have approached me for training, which I'm happy to provide. Helping others improve themselves has always been a personal objective.
I frequently encourage my friends to visit Taiwan, highlighting the loving and caring nature of its people, the excellent education system, well-organized and punctual transportation, unique cultural traditions, and overall safety for foreigners.
After graduation, I hope to secure a job in my field of study and potentially start my own business related to training, mental health, and personal improvement. I believe the people of Taiwan would appreciate my talent and hard work. My ultimate goal is to represent Taiwan in all aspects, giving back to the country that has provided me with so many opportunities for growth and learning.
