I chose to study at Taipei Medical University because of its strong emphasis on clinically oriented translational research and its commitment to global collaboration through interdisciplinary teamwork.
Choosing Taiwan for Education and Quality of Life
I decided to study in Taiwan due to its competitive education level, efficient healthcare system, low crime rates, and economic freedom. Taiwan’s high ranking on the Global Peace Index and its status as one of the safest countries in the world were also significant factors. The country’s diverse culture, rich history, and the presence of “green mother nature” make it an appealing destination for international students.
Taiwan’s Natural Beauty and Cultural Appeal
Taiwan can be described as the “most beautiful island, the green jade of Asia.” My favorite place in Taiwan is Hualien City, known for its natural beauty and being termed the “prettiest city by the sea.” The dramatic local landscape of Taroko National Park and the vibrant city center of Hualien, with its boutiques, temples, and teashops, are particularly captivating.
Academic Pursuits at Taipei Medical University
My choice to study at Taipei Medical University was driven by its focus on clinical-oriented translational research and its collaborative approach with interdisciplinary teams worldwide. The university provides a nurturing environment with experienced educators, researchers, clinicians, and business professionals. It therefore can support development through extensive financial resources and professional networks.
Learning Achievements and Overcoming Cultural Challenges
My first visit to Taiwan was most memorable, shaping my image of the Taiwanese culture. My program has taught me to apply research thinking and problem-solving skills effectively. One of the greatest challenges was feeling like an “outsider” and navigating new cultural norms. However, the friendliness and support of Taiwanese classmates made this adjustment easier, helping me feel more integrated over time.
Social Life and Experiences in Taipei
Beyond academics, I enjoy Taipei’s night markets and museums. The city’s efficient metro system and well-maintained public parks make it a people-first city, ideal for spending time with friends and enjoying activities like hot pot. I often share with my family that Taiwan is home to a truly welcoming community, where locals are kind, friendly, and helpful to foreigners, making settling in much easier.
Career Benefits and Future Prospects
Taiwan is a popular destination for expats due to its stunning countryside, delicious food, and affordable living costs. The welcoming nature of the locals and the healthy work-life balance make Taiwan ideal for students and professionals alike. After completing my studies, I plan to work as an academic researcher at Taipei Medical University and stay in Taiwan for a few years due to the friendly people, excellent healthcare, safety, and lower cost of living compared to Western countries.
Educational Comparison with Home Country
Taiwan excels in education, scoring high in reading literacy, mathematics, and sciences. Its teaching methods and state-of-the-art equipment are aspects my home country could learn from. Taiwan offers a wide range of quality educational institutions with programs accessible to English-language speakers, making it a favorable choice for international students.
