Choosing Taiwan for Education
My decision to study in Taiwan stemmed from a visit in 2018, where I fell in love with the country at first sight. I chose to study abroad in Taiwan to not only learn Mandarin and English simultaneously but also to experience the local life. Taiwan is a place where my dreams are coming true.
University Choice and Academic Experience
I selected Aletheia University, located in Tamsui, because of my fondness for the area. My major is English, as I aspire to become both an English and Mandarin teacher. The diverse teaching staff from Taiwan, America, Britain, and Australia has significantly improved my English skills, which I enjoy the most in my studies. I am proud to have become the top student in my entire department.
Overcoming Challenges and Achievements
Breaking the language barrier has been my greatest challenge. I’ve tackled this by studying diligently and immersing myself in local culture, including making friends with Taiwanese people and enjoying local cuisine like stinky tofu and beef noodle. My efforts have led me to become more confident in communication.
Social Life and Leisure Activities
When not studying, I spend time with friends, often at Tamsui riverside. We enjoy talking, sharing stories, having milk tea, shopping, and watching the sunset, which I believe is a must-see experience in life.
Sharing Experiences and Future Aspirations
I regularly share my daily activities in Taiwan with my family and friends back home, including my challenges, hobbies like photography, places I visit, and food I enjoy. My goal is to become a teacher, and my experiences in Taiwan will greatly benefit my future career. I plan to continue working hard to graduate with an excellent degree, improve my soft skills, and enhance my Chinese language proficiency. If given the opportunity, I would like to stay in Taiwan for further studies at a master’s level.
Academic Environment in Taiwan
The educational experience in Taiwan differs greatly from my home country. The teaching quality is exceptional, with a comfortable environment that encourages students to express their opinions and engage actively. The approach here focuses on self-study and practical application, with teachers acting more like guides, which helps in retaining and understanding lessons better than just through theory. The diverse student body at my university includes students from various countries, reflecting Taiwan’s openness and supportive environment for international students.
