I see Taiwan as “the heart of cultural diversity.” Its rich blend of traditions and cultures has deeply influenced my perspectives and personal growth.

Fulfilling an International Study Dream

Choosing to study in Taiwan was a dream nurtured since high school, inspired by a Mandarin teacher who studied in Taiwan for around seven years. The country’s renowned education system, particularly in research and technology, was a major draw.

Life at National Tsing Hua University

I chose National Tsing Hua University for its prestigious reputation, particularly for its business program. The international bachelor’s program in business management, taught entirely in English, covers a wide range of subjects like management, HR, marketing, and finance. The learning environment here, enriched by knowledgeable professors and diverse classmates, has been the highlight of my studies. My greatest learning achievement has been not just high grades but gaining broader insights and practical experiences that will be useful throughout my life.

The primary challenge has been communication due to the language difference. My Mandarin has improved significantly since arriving, and I’m hopeful it will continue to get better, allowing deeper cultural immersion and building more local friendships.

Being in Taiwan has allowed me to meet many great new people, not only Taiwanese or Vietnamese but all around the world. I enjoy being around my friends after school. We like to meet on weekdays and have lunch or dinner at the canteen. And on the weekends, we may hang out outside the campus to relax and have local food together. Sometimes, on special occasions, like Christmas Eve, or Lunar New Year, the Vietnamese students at NTHU and I would go on a trip together.

Also, Hsinchu is my favorite place in Taiwan, not just because of my studies at National Tsing Hua University, but for its peaceful and harmonious atmosphere that resonates with me deeply.

Sharing Taiwanese Experiences

I describe Taiwan as “the heart of cultural diversity”. The rich and varied cultures of Taiwan have profoundly impacted me, offering a unique experience far beyond my expectations. It has been a great experience getting to know more about the country’s rich cultures.

To my parents, friends back in Vietnam, and some Vietnamese people, they may assume that Taiwanese cultures are similar to Vietnamese because we share the Eastern Asian soul. For that reason, when talking and sharing with them, I always emphasize how different the two cultures are, such as culinary, people, and traditions, on what I have experienced here. It has turned out they are really interested in what I told, and that has helped them to know more about Taiwan.

Enhancing Future Career Prospects

In my view, one main reason people choose Taiwan is because of the great immersive Mandarin environment, which is the second most popular language in the world. Besides, Taiwan has also been earning a good international image for its technology and business growth. On top of it, Taiwanese cultures are always invaluable to all foreigners studying and living here.

Personally, in addition to learning Mandarin, which may bring about more opportunities for me in the future, being here in Taiwan has helped me to step out of the comfort zone and got my passions inspired. Given the opportunity, I would love to stay and work in Taiwan post-graduation. The Taiwanese work environment offers valuable experiences and networking opportunities for my career.

Comparing Educational Systems

Compared to Vietnam, Taiwan’s educational system places a greater emphasis on self-growth, learning, and integration into one’s passions from a young age, providing a more nurturing and encouraging environment for students.
