Indonesia
My decision to study in Taiwan was shaped by its outstanding education system and the wide range of opportunities it offers to international students.
Educational Experience in Taiwan
Choosing to study in Taiwan was influenced by the nation’s high-quality education and the plethora of opportunities available for international students. I was particularly attracted to the diverse study programs and the numerous scholarship options that cater to foreign students like myself. My decision to enroll at the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) was driven by its esteemed reputation and the availability of a full scholarship. This scholarship not only covers my educational expenses but also provides sufficient monthly funds to support my living in Taiwan. The university is renowned for its excellent alumni and lecturer network, enhancing the educational experience.
Personal Growth and Achievements
Throughout my time in Taiwan, I’ve had the privilege of meeting people from various countries, which has expanded my perspective and allowed me to forge new friendships. This intercultural exchange has been a source of fun and insight. My greatest academic achievement in Taiwan has been continuing my master’s education in mechanical engineering, a field I am passionate about and have a foundational background in from my undergraduate studies in Indonesia. Additionally, learning Mandarin, participating in international conferences, and engaging in extensive research with professors have been significant milestones.
Lifestyle and Challenges in Taiwan
Life in Taiwan offers a safe and peaceful environment, which is crucial for focusing on my goals. The natural beauty of Taiwan, with its stunning beaches, mountains, and the warmth of its people, makes it a desirable place to live. Liuqiu Island, known for its beautiful sea life, is my favorite spot. However, the journey has not been without challenges. Language barriers and living costs were significant hurdles. I tackled these by self-learning Mandarin through campus programs, books, and YouTube, and by earning money through part-time jobs and as a research assistant.
Extracurricular Activities and Recommendations
When not studying, I enjoy traveling around Taiwan, exploring its cities, and creating content for my social media and YouTube channel. My experiences in Taiwan are something I enthusiastically share with my family and friends, encouraging them to visit this beautiful country with its easy transportation, safe environment, friendly people, and exquisite food.
Career Prospects and Comparisons
Studying in Taiwan is incredibly beneficial for my future career, especially considering Taiwan’s advancement in the manufacturing and technology sectors. Many Taiwanese companies have branches in Indonesia, offering promising career opportunities. The education quality, research opportunities, and academic reputation of Taiwan’s universities, particularly in science and technology, make their graduates highly sought after. The comfortable, safe, and peaceful environment in Taiwan also plays a crucial role in this positive educational experience. This contrasts with my home country, where such extensive scholarship opportunities, free access, and better health insurance are less prevalent.
Future Plans and Preferences
My future plans involve working in Taiwan after graduation. The country’s job market, with its ample vacancies, benefits, and favorable salaries, makes it an attractive place to build a career. The comfortable and safe living conditions in Taiwan further solidify my decision to stay here for several years post-graduation.
