After completing my studies, I plan to pursue a career in Taiwan. Graduating from NCKU—renowned for its excellence in civil engineering—will, I believe, make my job search here much smoother.

Realizing a Long-Held Dream

My journey to Taiwan was the fulfillment of a long-standing dream, facilitated by a partnership between my home university and NCKU. NCKU’s reputation, especially its civil engineering department, was a key factor in my decision.

Taiwan: A World-Class Gem

In describing Taiwan, I can only say it’s the gem of the world, the most wonderful country I’ve ever visited. Everything, from the food to the school and the landscape, was perfect, making my time here the happiest period of my life.

My favorite place in Taiwan is Hualien, particularly Taroko National Park. Its breathtaking gorge, hiking trails, and camping experiences in nature, especially the crystal blue water, have left an indelible mark on me.

Academic Life at NCKU

I chose NCKU, the only school in partnership with ECAM and renowned for civil engineering. The major was predetermined as it was the same as my study in Belgium. The most enjoyable aspects of my studies were the interesting courses, helpful students, and the engaging campus environment.

My greatest learning achievement in Taiwan was enhancing my Mandarin and English language skills, which I used to communicate with Taiwanese and other exchange students. Additionally, the unique and interesting courses offered insights I wouldn’t have gained in Belgium.

The most significant challenge was adapting to the more complicated course structure, compounded by the shift to online classes due to COVID-19. Staying motivated in this new learning environment was tough but manageable.

Enjoying Social Life in Taiwan

Apart from studies, I spent time enjoying meals, engaging in school activities, and hobbies with friends. Singing Mandarin songs at KTV, going to the pool or bowling, and participating in sports were some of the activities we enjoyed together.

I shared every fun fact, my daily life and routine, and the people I met with my family and friends back home. The photos and places we visited in Taiwan were particularly exciting to talk about. I also look forward to having my family visit Taiwan.

Career Benefits of Studying in Taiwan

My plan is to complete my studies and then seek employment in Taiwan. My experiences in Taiwan have convinced me that my life here would be far better than in Europe. To that end, I believe having studied at NCKU, a well-known university for civil engineering, will simplify my job search in Taiwan. Taiwanese universities are highly regarded worldwide, which will benefit my career regardless of where I work.

Comparing Educational Systems

While the teaching in Taiwan was more challenging than in my home country, the environment and facilities, particularly at NCKU, were superior. The campus’s vastness and the engaging nature of the courses made for an enriching educational experience.

I think studying in Taiwan is beneficial for everyone, especially those who love traveling and learning about new cultures. Taiwan’s unique culture can be challenging but rewarding for open-minded individuals who enjoy exploring.
