Tanzania
Taiwan’s safe and forward-thinking environment has made me realize that choosing to study here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
My name is Barnaba A. Buhombe, and I’m a third-year student from Tanzania studying in the International Program for Sustainable Development (IPSD) at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU). I feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to study in Taiwan, which has been a blessing. My interactions with local and international students have been welcoming and friendly, making me feel safe and free at CJCU.
Motivation for Studying in Taiwan
During high school, my aspiration was to study abroad for a better career and global perspective. Volunteering at the Jane Goodall’s Institute, focused on environmental conservation and community, I discovered the IPSD program. After comparing various countries, I found Taiwan to be the best fit for me. Taiwan’s safe and progressive environment has confirmed that my decision to study here was one of the best in my life.
Academic Program and Experience
I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in IPSD, with a focus on climate change adaptation and community construction development. The program at CJCU offers immense opportunities for practical application of our skills and knowledge. I have found great value in learning directly from the community, which has enriched my understanding of various skills and knowledge.
The learning environment at CJCU, including both theoretical and practical aspects, is excellent. The teachers and supervisors are supportive and understanding. The educational system in Taiwan, with well-equipped facilities and a focus on student safety, is far more advanced than in my home country, Tanzania.
The biggest challenges have been the language barrier and cultural differences. However, these challenges have turned into opportunities to learn a new language and culture. Engaging in community activities through the University Social Responsibility program under the Ministry of Education has been particularly enlightening.
Achievements in Taiwan
Studying in Taiwan will significantly benefit my career, as the education system here provides all the opportunities a student needs. I am confident that my experience in Taiwan will positively impact my future career.
My studies in Taiwan have allowed me to pursue my dreams and participate in various activities. Being part of the University Social Responsibility program has helped me understand my societal responsibilities. I have shared my creativity and knowledge with the community, focusing on sustainability. I’ve been featured in several Taiwanese news websites, which is a significant achievement for me.
Taiwan has been the perfect choice for my educational career. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in Taiwan. The Taiwanese education system and the government’s care for international students make me feel at home and safe, encouraging me to continue my studies here.
