Russia
The welcoming atmosphere, positive attitude toward international students, high-quality education, stunning natural scenery, and excellent living standards all inspired me to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Taiwan.
I’m Chimita from Ulan-Ude, Russia. My interest in foreign languages developed from my years of playing chess and traveling. I’ve been learning Mandarin for over five years and also speak English. I’ve run a home bakery and an online store, and I have experience in shooting and editing advertisements.
Decision to Study in Taiwan
My first encounter with Taiwan was through a summer Mandarin course in Taipei in 2019. I have traveled extensively but found Taiwan uniquely captivating. The atmosphere, people’s attitude towards foreign students, education quality, natural beauty, and living standards were all compelling reasons for me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Taiwan.
I am studying business administration at NCKU, where my curriculum is split between mathematics and societal studies, and taught in Mandarin. This language challenge has been rewarding, allowing me to apply new knowledge directly to my businesses. The practical application of theoretical knowledge has been the most enjoyable aspect of my studies. The professors here are also approachable and friendly, creating a conducive learning environment.
Challenges and Overcoming Them
The biggest challenges were the differences in the education system and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dealing with document submissions and visa applications was difficult, especially when some processes could only be completed in Moscow. Through determination and quick thinking, including a last-minute change in flight plans, I managed to navigate these obstacles and arrive in Taiwan.
Future Plans
Working in the restaurant industry in Taiwan, I am learning business practices firsthand. My plan to start a startup in Taiwan is fueled by the numerous opportunities I see here. I expect my chess-derived analytical skills and the practical business knowledge I’m gaining to contribute significantly to my success in Taiwan.
After graduation, I plan to stay in Taiwan for a few more years to develop my potential and explore business opportunities. The conducive environment for entrepreneurship, warm climate, and the kindness of the people make Taiwan an attractive place for me to live and work.
Important Achievements
Overcoming initial health challenges, catching up with my studies despite joining late, and understanding the value of money and time are my key achievements. Working and studying simultaneously has taught me financial responsibility and time management. Additionally, being away from my family has reinforced my love and appreciation for them.
Advice for Prospective Students
Be prepared for any challenge life may throw at you. University life is a golden opportunity to learn and grow. Value this time, enjoy every moment, and remember that studying abroad is a pathway to success. Your family’s support from afar is a source of strength and motivation.
