Decision to Study in Taiwan

My name is Evgenii Ovechkin. My professional background is closely linked to the Chinese language, culture, and history, making Taiwan an ideal place for my studies. I chose Taiwan for its numerous educational opportunities and high safety standards. Taiwan’s unique culture and people, known for their devotion to labor, honesty, and communication, also played a significant role in my decision. I saw this as a chance to combine my MBA studies in marketing and finance with practicing Mandarin and teaching English to international students.

I am enrolled in an MBA program at CTBC Business School, focusing on artificial intelligence and smart finance, and international financial management. I particularly enjoy the interactive and discussion-based approach in classes, where we work closely with our teachers to find and solve problems.

Comparing Educational Environments

I noticed the outstanding standards of education, blending traditional Chinese and Western innovative approaches, in Taiwan While my home country excels in fields like IT and space, I don’t see myself in those areas. CTBC Business School offers numerous facilities and support for career advancement, and the environment here is conducive to focused study, complemented by cutting-edge technical equipment.

Challenges and Overcoming Them

The greatest challenge I faced was applying during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It seemed all my plans might be ruined, but I remained determined, overcoming the challenge with courage and perseverance. Eventually, I received a scholarship approval from CTBC Business School and, after a semester online and enduring quarantine, I managed to start my studies in Taiwan. My personal achievement is therefore overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, including studying remotely and navigating through quarantine and formalities.

Future Plans and Aspirations

I’ve already successfully completed an exam in AI smart finance, and the support from school coordinators has been instrumental in this journey. After completing my studies, I aim to stay, live, and work in Taiwan, attracted by the happiness and satisfaction of the people, the country’s safety, and the career and job opportunities. Within four weeks of my stay, I already received several promotional opportunities, including a potential training in artificial intelligence.

Benefits for Future Career

I believe that the knowledge and experience gained in Taiwan will be key to success in modern and advanced fields, especially in cutting-edge technologies. Taiwan’s reputation in technology offers chances to become an expert and apply these skills either here or in my home country.

Advice for Prospective Students

Prospective students should set specific study goals, familiarize themselves with Chinese culture, and learn basic Mandarin, as not everyone speaks English in smaller towns and villages. Appreciating the study period in Taiwan is crucial, as these experiences are likely to be fondly remembered in the future.
