My family and I have always considered Taiwan our “second home,” as we’ve visited often ever since I was little.

I am currently studying for a master’s degree in the Early Childhood Development program at Chaoyang University of Technology in Taiwan. Before moving to Taiwan, I graduated from a design institute in Hong Kong and worked as an art instructor and graphic designer. My experience working with children as an art instructor fueled my love for interacting with them. I enjoy eating and listening to music, particularly with family and friends. I take pride in being from Hong Kong, a city where everything is accessible and diverse.

Decision to Study in Taiwan

My family and I have always seen Taiwan as our “second hometown,” visiting frequently since I was young. Although I enjoyed life in Hong Kong, the desire to experience life in Taiwan and pursue further studies in child care motivated me to move. This move was also a step towards potentially living in Taiwan with my family in the future.

Academic Program and Enjoyment

I chose to study Early Childhood Development at Chaoyang University of Technology, attracted by their Montessori courses. My passion for working with children and the desire to gain professional knowledge in child care led me to this program. I find great satisfaction in learning how to effectively interact, communicate, and aid in the development of children and infants.

Educational Comparison: Hong Kong and Taiwan

Hong Kong’s universities are renowned, but Taiwan offers a different learning environment. The most significant difference is the language; Hong Kong uses Cantonese or English, while Taiwan predominantly uses Mandarin. Fortunately, my prior knowledge of Mandarin and interest in Taiwanese culture made the transition smoother. Taiwanese universities also tend to have more spacious campuses compared to Hong Kong’s space-constrained environment.

Challenges and Overcoming Them

The most challenging aspect of applying to study in Taiwan was managing the paperwork, especially obtaining my degree qualification identification from an overseas university. I navigated this by diligently gathering necessary documents and maintaining open communication with relevant authorities in both Taiwan and England to ensure a smooth application process.

Future Plans

After completing my studies, I aspire to work in fields related to young children, such as in kindergartens or as a babysitter. I plan to stay in Taiwan rather than return to Hong Kong, as my family and I love Taiwan. I look forward to exploring more local food, beautiful sights, and making new friends in Taiwan.

Career Benefits from Studying in Taiwan

Studying in Taiwan is a crucial step towards working here in the future. It allows me to immerse myself in Taiwanese culture and adapt to the local lifestyle, preparing me for future employment opportunities. Learning the traditional Taiwanese language will enable me to communicate more effectively with a broader range of people in Taiwan.

Achievements in Taiwan

One of my most significant achievements in Taiwan is the ability to fluently communicate in Mandarin, which initially led some classmates to think I was Taiwanese. Making friends in Taiwan has been a joy, and these relationships have helped me adapt to the local lifestyle and broaden my perspective on Taiwan. These experiences have created cherished memories.

Advice for Prospective Students

I encourage students considering studying in Taiwan to embrace the opportunity. Taiwanese people are open-minded and welcoming. Staying connected with family and bringing familiar items from home can provide comfort. Taiwan is a country filled with love and helpfulness, making it an excellent place for international students.
