India
My first piece of advice is this: don’t hesitate to choose Taiwan if you’re given the opportunity. It’s one of the safest countries in the world, and its educational environment is both flexible and highly productive.
I am a self-motivated, optimistic, and enthusiastic PhD student at Kaohsiung Medical University. I’m passionate about exploring life beyond my profession, which includes part-time English teaching in Kaohsiung. This allows me to experience Taiwan’s life and culture more intimately. Additionally, I am a dog mom who loves dance, music, and occasionally blogging about Taiwan’s beauty. I have an extroverted personality and enjoy public representation.
Decision to Study in Taiwan
I initially didn’t consider Taiwan for my PhD until I interacted with professors and students who shared their positive experiences about Taiwan’s education and lifestyle. The secure living environment, freedom in research, financial support from the university, and the kindness of the Taiwanese people strongly influenced my decision to study here.
Academic Program and Enjoyment
I am pursuing a PhD in medicinal and applied chemistry, focusing on polymer-based nanoparticles synthesis for cancer gene therapy. My studies involve chemistry and molecular biology, particularly the applications of nanoparticles in drug and gene delivery. I have enjoyed the lab environment, the flexibility of work, and the engaging seminars and classes. Learning about new techniques and interacting with a mix of local and international students has made my academic experience enriching.
Comparison with Home Country (India)
Compared to the competitive and challenging educational environment in India, Taiwan offers ease of access to sophisticated instruments and abundant resources in university laboratories. This availability accelerates research and publication processes, a contrast to the delays often faced in Indian universities due to resource limitations.
Challenges and Overcoming Them
While the application process was straightforward, the primary challenge was navigating visa procedures due to the absence of a Taiwanese embassy in Mumbai. Traveling to New Delhi and Chennai for visa processing and document attestation was cumbersome. Learning Chinese for daily communication was another challenge, which I overcame with online classes and consistent practice.
Future Plans and Career Aspirations
Post-graduation, I aspire to work in Taiwan’s industry to gain professional experience. I am drawn to Taiwan’s potential in innovative technologies and research development. The government’s policies that support foreigners working here make Taiwan an attractive place for long-term career development.
Benefits of Studying in Taiwan for Future Career
Studying in Taiwan is highly beneficial for my future career, thanks to the international and modern study environment, access to advanced laboratory facilities, and opportunities to learn Chinese. The welcoming attitude of Taiwanese companies towards international talents is a significant advantage.
Key Achievements
Representing Kaohsiung Medical University as an international student and participating in interviews for university promotion are among my key achievements. Additionally, I have successfully presented my research at international symposiums and conferences.
Advice for Prospective Students
My first advice would be, DO NOT hesitate to choose Taiwan if you get selected, it is the safest country on the planet and education environment is very flexible and productive. Taiwan’s safety, flexible educational environment, and student benefits outweigh the initial challenges related to food preferences and housing. Embrace the opportunity to study in Taiwan and enjoy the enriching journey it offers.
