Thailand
Be bold and go for it—Taiwan is ready to welcome you with open arms and countless new opportunities to explore.
Choosing Taiwan for Studies
Taiwan has always been my dream destination. After graduating from the Faculty of Arts at Silpakorn University in Nakhon Pathom province, I eagerly took the opportunity to work at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre Office in Bangkok. In late 2017, I decided to move to Taiwan, a decision that came to fruition in 2018. Now, as I pursue my master’s of communication studies at Buddhist Tzu Chi University in Hualien city, Taiwan, it feels like a dream come true. I am truly happy with my decision and enjoy being in my dream country.
I chose to study in Taiwan primarily because it’s a country where freedom of speech is highly valued. As a student in a communication studies program, this aspect is particularly important to me. Besides this, the Taiwanese people and their rich, beautiful culture have also greatly attracted me. I learned that “the most beautiful scenery of Taiwan is its people.” They are known for their friendliness and politeness. During my first trip to Taiwan in late December 2016, I immediately felt that Taiwan was where I wanted to live. It is a developed country in every aspect: people are well-mannered, cities are clean, and the warm welcomes everywhere make me feel like a part of this country, like it’s home.
Academic Journey & Application Process
I am a second-year graduate student in communication studies, where we cover everything about media, including journalism, new media like social networks, and health communication. Health communication is about promoting health information, crucial in public health campaigns and the doctor-patient relationship. This field aims to influence personal health choices by improving health literacy. Before coming to Taiwan, I was unfamiliar with health communication. Being a communication student here, I’ve learned how media influences our lives in both positive and negative ways, highlighting the importance of responsible media in society. I aspire to be a good journalist in the future.
The major difference between studying in Taiwan and my home country is the freedom of speech. In Thailand, some sensitive issues are often avoided, but in Taiwan, I can discuss and think about these topics freely. This no-barrier environment has brought a better quality of education, which I couldn’t have experienced in my home country.
The most significant challenge during my application to study in Taiwan was managing time as an office worker in Thailand. Searching for schools, courses, and preparing documents while working full-time was quite challenging. Taking language proficiency tests was another time-consuming task. I overcame these challenges by efficiently managing and organizing my life plan.
Future After Graduation
Studying in Taiwan has improved my language skills and understanding of cultural differences, which will benefit my future career. In a globalized society, such connections and knowledge are invaluable. These skills will be beneficial whether I stay in Taiwan or return to Thailand.
After graduation, my plan is to stay in Taiwan and find a stable job. I’ve always felt that Taiwan is my second home. Beyond the emotional attachment, Taiwan offers a high quality of life, including its National Health Insurance. The country provides for its citizens and makes everyone feel at home, regardless of their origin.
Achievements and Learning
My most important achievement in Taiwan is the diverse friendships I’ve made. These connections have opened up my viewpoint and made life seem larger and more varied. I’ve learned from these experiences, and we’ve learned from each other. I’ve also completed courses that I initially found challenging, which has made me feel stronger and more confident.
Advice for Prospective Students
My advice for students considering studying in Taiwan is to be fearless. Taiwan warmly welcomes you to explore new opportunities and challenges. The study environment here is among the best, and the friendliness of Taiwanese people ensures you never feel alone. There are many fantastic places to discover, and Taiwan will not disappoint. If you’re looking to “Live and Learn,” Taiwan is the place to find your answers.
