Malaysia
Studying in Taiwan has given me a whole new perspective, making me more adaptable and better equipped to handle all kinds of situations with confidence.
Reasons for Selecting Taiwan as a Study Destination
I was inspired to study in Taiwan after seeing the independence my sister gained from her education here. The prevalent use of new media applications, which aligns with my interests, also drew me to Taiwan. Additionally, securing a scholarship from the Taiwan Ministry of Education was a decisive factor in my choice to study here.
Selecting the right university was challenging without being able to visit the campuses. I overcame this by conducting extensive online research and navigating the complex process of verifying my secondary school and diploma certificates, which were in different languages than what Taiwanese universities required.
Insights into the New Media Art Program
I am enrolled in the New Media Art program, which covers diverse subjects like video arts, HTML5, coding, contemporary art theory, and other practical courses. What I enjoy most is the holistic approach our lecturers take, integrating various knowledge areas and promoting outdoor learning through visits outside the campus.
In Taiwan, there is a greater expectation for student independence, whereas in Malaysia, lecturers tend to be more hands-on in their teaching approach. Taiwanese universities also place more emphasis on general education courses, broadening my knowledge beyond my major. The quality of facilities and equipment seems to vary across universities in both countries, depending on their tuition fees.
Taiwan has been an ideal place for experiencing independent living. I’ve had numerous opportunities to engage in various activities, including school events, charitable work, art exhibitions, and cultural tours organized by our international exchange center. These experiences have been integral to my personal growth.
Career Aspirations and Considering Staying in Taiwan
Studying in Taiwan offers a unique perspective different from my experiences in Malaysia, making me a more adaptable individual capable of handling various situations. This experience could open up job opportunities in Taiwan or with Mandarin-speaking companies.
Post-graduation, I am open to working in Taiwan if I find a suitable job, mainly due to the convenience of transportation, higher pay, and easier access to nature compared to Malaysia. However, my family’s situation will play a crucial role in my final decision.
Advice for Prospective International Students

It’s important to be open-minded, take advantage of Taiwan’s excellent public transport to explore, and learn from these diverse experiences.
