I chose to study in Taiwan because I believe it’s a suitable place for me to manifest my future. Additionally, I wanted to study Mandarin and be able to use it in daily conversations. My interests include drawing, photography, and traveling. I consider myself highly ambitious, responsible, and creative, having participated in business plan and photography competitions and secured third and second place in them.

Taiwan is an excellent place for business studies, given its rapid industrialization and economic growth. The friendly and safe environment, coupled with lovely locals, made it an attractive choice. Taiwan is strategically located, not too far from my country, making the adjustment to new surroundings easier due to similar lifestyles, food tastes, and culture. The Taiwanese government offers numerous scholarships for international students, and many programs are taught in English, which is a significant advantage. The primary reason for my choice, however, was to study Mandarin.

The biggest challenge in applying to Yuan Ze University involved processing my visa and authenticating my foreign diploma and reports swiftly due to the high number of applicants. I overcame this by managing my time effectively to meet the deadlines. I also took Mandarin classes to prepare for basic communication, despite the significant differences between Mandarin and my native language.

Academic Experience in Taiwan

I am studying business administration, a program completely taught in English that covers basic principles and practices of business, including accounting, calculus, economics, human resources, etc. In the second year, students choose between global management and international finance; I prefer finance due to my interest in working with numbers. The program at Yuan Ze University offers many useful courses that enhance my knowledge in the business field.

My goals include expanding my network through friendships and cultural exchanges, understanding and applying business theories to real-world practices, graduating with a satisfying grade, contributing to the world through my business skills, and becoming fluent in Mandarin.

The teaching quality and environment in Taiwan are superior to those in Indonesia. The professors and staff here are friendly and easy-going, which contrasts with the slight awkwardness I felt between teachers and students in my home country. The Taiwanese school equipment and facilities, including libraries, courts, stadiums, and gymnasiums, are adequate and complete. However, understanding Taiwanese teachers’ English pronunciation can sometimes be challenging.

Future Plans Post-Graduation

Studying in Taiwan offers significant advantages, such as great opportunities for international students to work here after graduation. The high quality of Taiwan’s education is recognized globally, and the ability to speak Mandarin adds value when seeking jobs in our respective countries. Additionally, Taiwan’s universities offer internships, which are beneficial for job-seeking fresh graduates.

After graduation, I plan to stay in Taiwan as I feel a strong connection to this place and enjoy my time here with friends. The accessible transportation, affordable living costs, and high minimum salary are appealing. I intend to find a job that aligns with my passion and talent.

Advice for Prospective Students

I recommend studying in Taiwan due to its high-quality education, well-paying part-time jobs, and the opportunity to learn Mandarin in its native setting. Taiwanese universities offer numerous scholarships and various courses that support student growth. The transportation system is student-friendly, with free or affordable options like U-Bikes, which are beneficial for students.
