Philippines
Studying in Taiwan has really strengthened my résumé — the cultural diversity, language skills, and overall experience here make me stand out, especially when applying to multinational companies.
Embracing Taiwan: A Student’s Love for Culture and Education
Three years ago, I spent a semester at NSYSU, Taiwan, as an exchange student. That experience, immersed in the peaceful, safe culture of Taiwan, left a lasting impression on me. My undergraduate degree was in computer science, but during my exchange, I explored management courses, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This led me to return to Taiwan for an MBA at NSYSU. I believe a programmer should have skills beyond coding; they should also be adept at building teams and managing people.
The cultural similarities between Taiwan and the Philippines, along with the affordable cost of living, made Taiwan an appealing choice for further studies. Learning Mandarin, recognizing its growing global significance, became one of my goals.
Academic Path and Achievements at NSYSU
I’m currently pursuing a Global Human Resource Management MBA at NSYSU. This program has deepened my understanding of the critical role of human resources in business. It covers various aspects, including psychology, organizational behavior, and research methodology, which are integral to my future career goals. NSYSU’s modern facilities, like well-equipped classrooms and libraries, provide an excellent learning environment. Additionally, balancing my studies with freelance programming and video editing work, and serving as the vice president of the student association, are achievements I’m particularly proud of.
Career Aspirations and Life in Taiwan
My experience studying in Taiwan, with its cultural diversity and language skills, has significantly boosted my resume, especially for potential roles in multinational companies. My interaction with international classmates has been enriching, and I believe it gives me an edge in the job market. I also had the opportunity to work at Hamastar Technology Co., Ltd. in Kaohsiung as a video editor, which was a fulfilling experience. I’m planning to intern and hopefully secure a position there post-graduation. The convenience of life in Taiwan, including the efficient MRT system, makes it an attractive place to work and live.
Encouraging Words for Future Students
To prospective students, I say: Don’t let fear hold you back. It’s natural to feel afraid and skeptical about leaving home and facing new challenges, but it’s important to transform that fear into excitement and view it as a chance for growth. Stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing new experiences can lead to significant personal and professional development. As someone who once feared leaving home, I can confidently say that living and studying in Taiwan has made me a more independent and ambitious individual, ready to pursue my dreams.
