Nguyen Bich Ngoc

I am Ngoc from Vietnam. Previously, I worked as a senior corporate affairs officer at a major multinational retailer in Vietnam. My decision to study abroad was a strategic step in my career development. Now in my second year in Taiwan, I am deeply engaged in enhancing the management and business models of startups and small enterprises.

My choice to pursue my master’s in Taiwan was influenced by several factors. Firstly, the Taiwanese people’s kindness and hospitality made a lasting impression on me. Secondly, Taiwan’s rich and distinctive culture, which shares similarities with Vietnam yet maintains its own unique charm, intrigued me. The high-quality, globally recognized education here is surprisingly affordable compared to other countries. Additionally, Taiwan’s pristine environment and safe street food were appealing. Lastly, the increasing business collaborations between Taiwan and Vietnam motivated me to understand Taiwanese culture better and serve as a bridge between the two.

My MBA Experience at Yuan Ze University

I am enrolled in an MBA program specializing in leadership and human resources. Yuan Ze University’s MBA offerings are diverse, with courses in international business, marketing, business services management, and my own field. The courses are conducted in English, attracting a global student body. The curriculum’s strength lies in its integration of specialized courses like Organizational Behavior and Business Ethics with other disciplines, aiming to mold competent managers and leaders.

Taiwanese universities, including Yuan Ze, are known for their highly qualified professors who hold Ph.D. degrees from prestigious global institutions and are adept in both English and Mandarin. The learning environment is enriched by practical exercises, discussions, and projects. The campus, with its lush greenery and modern facilities, and the well-stocked, serene library, are highlights of my academic experience.

Initially, the language barrier posed a significant challenge, as I was the first Vietnamese student in my discipline and had no prior Mandarin knowledge. Despite my experience in an English-speaking work environment, adapting to academic English was overwhelming. With support from friends, professors, and the university staff, I improved rapidly. I committed to daily reading and writing in English and took advantage of the free Mandarin courses offered by the university.

Future Goals and Aspirations

My education in Taiwan has broadened my horizons and enhanced my core skills like sensitivity, adaptability, critical thinking, and professionalism. Interacting with a diverse student body has enriched my understanding of different cultures and business practices.

Vietnam’s growing economy, boosted by foreign investment, presents opportunities for educated professionals like me. I aspire to use my understanding of Taiwanese culture to facilitate cooperation between Taiwanese and Vietnamese businesses. Cultural awareness is crucial in a multicultural work environment, and I plan to leverage my Taiwanese education to foster research collaborations and improve academic standards in Vietnam.

My significant accomplishments in Taiwan include: (1) dedicated studying; (2) active engagement in discussions and clarifications with professors and peers; (3) utilizing academic resources provided by the university; and (4) participating in various competitions and projects. The university’s inclusive approach offers equal opportunities for international students to develop their skills, and staff are always available to assist those who are not fluent in Mandarin.

Taiwan’s administrative processes for work permits, residence cards, and health insurance are foreigner-friendly. My experience in Taiwan has taught me the value of helping others and adhering to government regulations, which are well-communicated and designed to facilitate legal compliance.
