Vietnam
Taiwanese universities combine modern, high-quality facilities with a rich variety of extracurricular activities, giving students a well-rounded and truly holistic learning experience.
Taiwan’s Educational Appeal and Admissions Challenges
Taiwan is renowned for its exceptional Ph.D. programs, characterized by a rich teaching heritage and a diverse international student body. This multicultural environment offers a unique advantage for my studies. Taiwanese universities blend modern facilities with a wide range of extracurricular activities, ensuring a holistic educational experience. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, offering a mix of mandatory and elective courses tailored to individual interests, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills.
One major challenge during application was the notarization of documents, as I reside in a city three hours away from Ho Chi Minh City, where the notarization was required. This process was time-consuming, involving six-hour round trips. However, assistance from the Taiwan Education Information Center in Vietnam was invaluable, providing guidance to expedite my application for overseas study.
Experiencing Economics at National Chung Cheng University
At National Chung Cheng University, I’m engaged in an esteemed economics program, where professors have studied in countries like the USA, UK, and across Europe. My studies in financial economics, microeconometrics, and international economics have enriched my knowledge and research skills. Taiwanese cuisine, like beef noodles and bubble tea, adds to the charm of my experience here.
Taiwanese universities excel in teaching quality compared to those in my home country. The welcoming environment, sociable students, state-of-the-art facilities, and a blend of modern and traditional architecture make the university campus a delightful and inspiring place to learn. The green, fresh air-filled campus, complete with convenient stores, enhances the overall experience.
Envisioning a Research-Driven Future
My ambition to become a researcher is supported by the professional training and connections I’ve established in Taiwan. Collaborating with Taiwanese professors could lead to postdoctoral opportunities, allowing me to adopt new perspectives and innovative research ideas.
Upon returning to Can Tho University, where I lecture, I plan to share my experiences and knowledge from Taiwan. I’ve already encouraged students and colleagues to pursue higher education in Taiwan. If circumstances allow, I would love to continue my research in Taiwan before eventually bringing my expertise back to Vietnam.
Personal Growth and Achievements in Taiwan
My time in Taiwan has been transformative, equipping me with new knowledge, research skills, and a renewed passion for academia. Remarkably, I’ve developed basic Mandarin language skills, enhancing my everyday interactions, and even learned to cook, a new skill for me as the youngest in my family.
Guidance for Future Taiwanese Scholars
Taiwanese universities offer detailed master’s and Ph.D. programs that cater well to international students. These programs provide access to advanced knowledge and professional teaching methodologies. Living in Taiwan also means experiencing its beautiful landscapes, delicious cuisine, friendly locals, and efficient transportation system. The use of English in academic materials and the proficiency of university staff in English also greatly facilitate the learning process. I encourage prospective students to explore what Taiwan has to offer academically and culturally.
