Malaysia
I chose Taiwan mainly because of its welcoming atmosphere and the affordable tuition fees that make studying here much more accessible.
Embracing Lifelong Learning in Taiwan
After high school, I stopped pursuing further education and entered the workforce, as my family couldn’t support me financially. While working, I realized the importance of lifelong learning. Therefore, I decided to return to school and continue my tertiary education to become more competent and competitive.
I chose Taiwan for two main reasons: the friendly environment and the affordable tuition fees. Taiwanese government agencies are well-known for their efficiency, and Taiwan has created a welcoming environment for the international community, whether for visiting, studying, or working. My previous visits to Taiwan left me impressed, especially with the convenience from the moment I arrived at Taoyuan International Airport, the availability of free WiFi, the comprehensive public transportation system, and the convenience of chain stores. Additionally, the affordability of tuition fees in Taiwanese universities was a significant factor, as it allows students to access quality education and interact with the international community.
The application process for studying in Taiwan was smooth. The university’s Malaysian alumni provided comprehensive information about the school and courses, and the process of applying for a student visa with Taiwanese authorities was straightforward. We were well taken care of by school officials, ensuring our safety and comfort while studying in Taiwan.
Exploring Fashion Administration at St. John’s University
I am studying fashion administration and management, which focuses on entering the fashion industry. The subjects include fashion product development, e-commerce, English, law, economics, marketing, psychology, and more. I enjoy the reading materials and references recommended by my teachers, which complement our textbooks and provide a broader perspective on the fashion industry. St. John’s University also offers numerous forums and talks to prepare students for future job opportunities, as well as exchange and learning programs for experiencing different educational systems and cultural differences.
Studying in Taiwan has allowed me to interact with people from various backgrounds, giving me insights into different cultures and traditions. The teachers are experienced and passionate, helping students extensively. Although our university may not have a large student population, the school officials do their best to provide access to educational resources and financial assistance. Taiwanese universities offer more learning facilities compared to those in Malaysia, where financial constraints sometimes limit the availability of adequate resources.
Envisioning the Future After Graduation
One similarity between Malaysia and Taiwan is their democratic systems, which have shaped me into a considerate and open-minded individual. I am impressed by Taiwanese creativity and innovation, evident in various campaigns and advertisements. The competitive working environment in Taiwan, marked by professionalism and efficiency, is more intense than in Malaysia. I believe my experience will help me adapt to different work cultures. The Taiwanese government provides resources for students to acquire skills and techniques, aiding in developing talents that meet market needs.
Post-graduation, I plan to seek employment or start my own business. My decision to stay in Taiwan will depend on the job opportunities available at that time. I enjoy the sophisticated public transportation, the accessible and affordable public utilities, and the sports and recreational facilities in Taiwan. These amenities facilitate a healthy lifestyle and are something I deeply appreciate. Additionally, the kindness of the Taiwanese people, such as my neighbors who help without expecting anything in return, has made a significant impact on me.
Guidance for Future Students Considering Taiwan
Know exactly what you want and be prepared for the challenges ahead. Be open to all experiences, both sweet and bitter. Before going to Taiwan, learn as much as possible about the country – its living costs, environment, transportation, and telecommunication services. Prepare the necessary documents and have adequate funds for emergencies. Don’t hesitate to ask teachers or classmates if you’re unsure about anything, and take every opportunity to learn. Independence is key, both in studies and in life. Make new friends, experience different cultures, and embrace everyone’s uniqueness.
