Vietnam
Studying in Taiwan has really sharpened my skills and deepened my knowledge, especially when it comes to blending technology into teaching. It’s made me a lot more confident and capable in using modern tools to create better learning experiences.
I graduated from Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, majoring in linguistics and teaching language methodology. Post-graduation, I taught at several English centers in Ho Chi Minh City. This experience enriched me with practical knowledge.
As an introvert, I envisioned a simple life focused on work and personal achievements. The idea of studying abroad didn’t appeal to me. However, a trip to Taiwan transformed my perspective. The excellent educational system, modern facilities, supportive government policies, and scholarships were compelling. Additionally, the high living standards, cultural diversity, and affordable student housing influenced my decision.
Initially, my introverted nature and fear of new environments held me back. I was hesitant and only applied half-heartedly. My sister, a Ph.D. graduate from Taiwan, encouraged me. A visit to her alma mater in Taiwan opened my eyes to the possibilities and the need to embrace change. This experience, combined with my family’s support, spurred my decision to study in Taiwan.
Academic Program and Enjoyable Aspects
In my master’s program at the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education, I’m exploring the integration of technology in education. The curriculum includes courses like Integrating Technology in Instruction and Special Topics on Language Learning with Digital Technology. My favorite aspect is learning to use software for designing tests and getting practical exposure to AR technology, which aligns with my linguistics and language teaching background.
Both Taiwan and Vietnam prioritize education quality. Teachers in both countries are professional and dedicated. The major difference lies in school facilities. Taiwan offers more advanced equipment, allowing for better practical experience. Vietnam, though lacking in high-quality facilities, collaborates with companies for hands-on practice and is also integrating technology into its educational system.
Future Plans Post-Study
Studying in Taiwan has honed my skills and knowledge, particularly in integrating technology into teaching. Conducting research for my thesis improved my critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, crucial for my educational research capabilities. Living in Taiwan has made me more adaptable, mature, and open to new experiences.
After completing my master’s degree, I intend to return to Vietnam to continue my teaching career. The primary goal of studying in Taiwan was to learn new methodologies to implement in Vietnam’s educational context. I plan to maintain connections with NTUST and recommend it to other students. Despite my proficiency in Mandarin not being strong enough for a teaching career in Taiwan, the experience has been invaluable.
Advice for Prospective Students
To students considering studying abroad, especially in Taiwan, I say: dare to take risks and step out of your comfort zones. Engage wholeheartedly in your pursuits. My experiences have taught me the importance of embracing challenges and opportunities with an open heart. Taiwan offers a transformative experience that can shape your academic and professional journey.
