I genuinely recommend Taiwan to anyone thinking about studying abroad. The warm, inclusive culture, helpful language support, and overall friendly atmosphere create an environment where international students can truly thrive.

I grew up on Reunion Island for 10 years and received most of my education in France, near Lyon. My experiences include working in the tourist sector in Paris as a bookseller and spending 3 years in Australia on a working holiday visa, where I learned English and worked in various fields.

I first came to Taiwan four years ago as a tourist and quickly decided to extend my stay to become a student. Taiwanese people were incredibly welcoming, and despite the language barrier, everyone was eager to help. This welcoming atmosphere, coupled with meeting other foreigners who wanted to stay, influenced my decision. I was involved with both Taiwanese locals and a group of foreigners in Kaohsiung. Meeting a student from Wenzao, who was learning French among other languages, made me feel that Wenzao was the right place for me. As a backpacker who loves traveling, I felt that this department can give me the knowledge that matches my personality. I applied, got a scholarship, and it became clear to me that Taiwan was where I wanted to be.

Academic Program and Enjoyment

The program in the Department of International Affairs at Wenzao helps us understand global relationships, including the roles of international organizations. It covers economics, politics, and culture. I’m currently studying diplomacy at a city level, focusing on international partnerships in a connected world. The flexibility and variety of perspectives in the teaching methods here have been particularly enlightening.

Comparison with Home Country Education

Studying in Taiwan is quite different from my home country. The entire education process is in English, fostering a unique exchange between students and professors from different cultures. Living in a Taiwanese environment has allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture, including language and food. The teaching methods in Wenzao are flexible, providing me with opportunities to pursue my interests and compare different viewpoints.

Challenges and Overcoming Them

The greatest challenge was my graduation project, which involved a significant amount of work. The way I overcome this challenge was to always believe that I can do it. And with my teacher’s help, I managed to complete my research successfully. This project was not just a challenge but also a path to finding my vocation. It taught me to persevere and reinforced my passion for research and academia in International Affairs.

Plans After Graduation

Post-graduation, I intend to apply what I’ve learned to help others and pursue a career in international relations. My experience in Taiwan has shown me the benefits of living in a different culture. I’m open to working anywhere in the world, following where my passion leads me.

I also believe that, by my experience living in Taiwan, I can prove that living in another country that is clearly different from mine is possible. International relations, globalization, and living abroad are very rich experiences that should be exploited at their maximum to make the world better. So, I want to use my professional and personal experience to work in international relations. I am convinced to be able to make a positive change.

Future Career Benefits

Being an international student in Taiwan has broadened my perspective, making me adaptable to different cultures. This unique background makes me stand out and will benefit my future career, particularly in the field of international affairs.

Achievements in Taiwan

In Taiwan, I’ve proven that adapting to a new culture is not only possible but beneficial. I’ve achieved excellent academic scores and found a comfortable living situation. I’ve settled down successfully, preparing myself for a promising future.

Advice for Future Foreign Students

I strongly encourage students to come to Taiwan. The welcoming culture, language support, and friendly environment make it an ideal place for international study. Students should embrace the learning opportunities and cultural exchange, both in absorbing the Taiwanese culture and sharing their own.
