NCCU: My Kind of School

Choosing NCCU was honestly one of the easiest big decisions I have ever made. I came from a background where communication, media, and technology were always crossing paths in my daily work, so I wanted a place where those worlds connect in a meaningful, future-oriented way. NCCU stood out right away because of its strong academic reputation in communication studies and its consistent excellence in global rankings. It felt like a university that was not only respected but also evolving with the world.

The Foundation of Support

Another major factor was the full scholarship opportunity. For many international students, funding is a very real concern, and receiving a scholarship from NCCU showed me that the university invests in students who want to grow and contribute. It made the path to studying abroad far more accessible and allowed me to focus fully on my academic and professional development. I discovered that NCCU’s vibrant international community and its supportive professors truly create a warm learning environment. You learn in classrooms, but you also learn from conversations, friendships, and collaboration. In the end, the combination of academic strength, financial support, global community, and industry exposure made NCCU feel like the perfect match.

The Global Communication and Innovation Technology program (GCIT) caught my attention because it blends communication, technology, and innovation in a way that feels extremely relevant to today’s digital world. I wanted a master’s program that did more than teach theories; I wanted something that challenged me to create, experiment, and apply what I learn directly to emerging technologies like AI, AR, VR, and digital media. GCIT offers exactly that.

I’m especially interested in the research opportunities within the program. Whether it is working on AI literacy for seniors, exploring digital intimacy, developing VR experiences, or creating sustainable media tech, the program encourages students to follow their curiosity. It feels like a playground for ideas where professors genuinely support experimentation. The mix of academic depth, creative production, and industry connections made GCIT feel like the perfect program for both career development and personal growth.

A Global Classroom and Collaborative Learning

Another thing I liked was the professors. Many of them come from strong academic and industry backgrounds, and they teach in a style that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and real collaboration. They don’t just lecture; they guide us to design projects, solve problems, and think beyond typical academic boundaries. I also appreciate the program’s bilingual environment, which allows international and local students to communicate and learn together smoothly.

The cohort itself is another reason I chose GCIT. My classmates come from diverse countries and professional backgrounds, which means every group discussion feels like a global conversation. You learn as much from your peers as you do from the textbooks.

Advice for Future Students in Taiwan

My biggest advice is simple: come with an open mind and an open heart. Taiwan is one of the most welcoming places I have ever lived in. People are kind, patient, and always ready to help, even if you only know a few words in Mandarin. It makes daily life much smoother and less intimidating than many expect. If you are nervous about adapting, trust me, Taiwan makes the transition easier.

Be curious about the culture. Try local food, join student clubs, take the MRT to random stations just to explore, and talk to locals. Taiwan is safe and full of hidden gems, from night markets to mountain trails. The more you experience, the more you will fall in love with the country.

Academically, Taiwan offers high-quality programs with affordable living costs, generous scholarships, and strong connections to industry. Don’t be afraid to reach out to professors or join research projects. Taiwanese universities often encourage collaboration, and professors are usually very supportive toward international students.

Practically speaking, learning basic Mandarin phrases goes a long way, especially when ordering food or managing daily tasks. Also, embrace convenience stores because they truly can do everything here.

Finally, give yourself time to adjust. Studying abroad is a big step, but Taiwan has this calming mix of tradition, modernity, and community that makes you feel at home faster than you expect. If you choose Taiwan, you won’t just earn a degree; you will gain a life experience that stays with you long after graduation.
