Chang Jung Christian University
Department of Mass Communication
Tainan City
Luu Yen Ngoc

What I really appreciate is that the program does not only focus on theory. I also get many chances to practice what I learn.

Finding the Right Fit

I chose my university because it offers a mass communication program, which is the major I am truly interested in studying. I have always wanted to learn more about media, communication, and how information is shared with the public, so finding a school with this program was very important to me. Compared with other private universities in Taiwan, my school’s ranking is not too low. It is somewhere in the middle, which makes me feel comfortable and confident about the quality of education I will receive.

Financial and Location Advantages

Another reason I chose this school is the cost. The tuition fee, miscellaneous fees, and dormitory fee are all not too high when compared with other private universities. This is important because studying abroad already comes with many expenses, so choosing a school with reasonable costs helps reduce the financial burden on me and my family. The university also offers attractive scholarship programs for international students. These scholarships give many students, including me, a chance to reduce tuition fees and focus more on studying. Knowing that the school supports international students made me feel more welcome.

In terms of location, the school is also very convenient. Although it is not directly in the city center, it is still easy to travel. Right in front of the school gate, there is a train station. From this station, students can take a train directly to the Tainan High-Speed Rail Station or go straight to downtown Tainan. This makes it easy for students to travel for part-time jobs, internships, shopping, or exploring the city. Overall, I chose this university because it fits my academic goals, has reasonable fees, provides scholarship opportunities, and is located in a convenient area. All these reasons made me confident that this school is the right choice for me.

Exploring the Breadth of Media

I really love the major I am studying. This field is interesting to me because it covers many different areas of media and helps me understand how information is created and shared with the public. In my program, I learn many subjects related to communication, such as photography, filmmaking, news reporting, broadcasting, advertising, and public relations. Each subject teaches me something new and helps me build different skills that are useful for my future career.

When I study photography and filmmaking, I learn how to use a camera, how to set up lighting, and how to create stories through images and videos. When I learn about news reporting, I understand how to gather information, write news stories, and present information in a clear and accurate way. Courses in broadcasting teach me how radio programs are produced and how to speak confidently in front of a microphone.

I also study advertising and public relations, which show me how companies and organizations communicate with the public and promote their products or services. These subjects teach me how to plan campaigns, create messages, and understand the needs of different audiences.

The Importance of Practical Training

What I really appreciate is that the program does not only focus on theory. I also get many chances to practice what I learn. I can work on real projects, use professional equipment, and cooperate with classmates on assignments. Through these hands-on experiences, I feel that my skills improve step by step. Studying mass communication has helped me grow a lot. I enjoy the variety of subjects, the practical training, and the chance to explore different parts of the media industry. I feel more confident about my abilities, and I believe this major is the right path for my future.

Making the Most of the Taiwan Experience

My advice for other international students who are preparing to come to Taiwan is to choose a university and a major that you truly like. When you study something you are interested in, it is much easier to stay motivated, focused, and willing to put in your best effort. Do not worry too much about whether a school is public or private. Instead, you should look at the ranking and overall reputation of the university, because this can help you understand the quality of education you will receive. Choosing the right major and the right school will make your study experience in Taiwan more meaningful and enjoyable.

For students who are already studying in Taiwan, my advice is to be more active and open to new experiences. It is important to participate in school activities, join clubs, and take part in events or competitions whenever you have the chance. These opportunities help you gain more experience, improve your communication skills, and meet new friends from different countries. Being involved in extracurricular activities also allows you to understand more about Taiwanese culture and student life.

Joining activities can help you build confidence and develop soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, and time management. These skills are very useful not only for your studies but also for your future career. Instead of staying in your comfort zone, try to explore more, talk to new people, and challenge yourself with new tasks. The more you participate, the more you will learn and grow during your time in Taiwan. Studying abroad is a valuable experience, and being active, positive, and open-minded will help you make the most out of your academic journey here.
