Haiti
My name is Wildipherson Henry, and I’m from Haiti. I’m currently studying in the International Bachelor Degree Program in Energy Engineering at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. As an international student, every day on campus is a step toward shaping my future—and I’d love to share what a typical day looks like for me.
My mornings usually begin with the peaceful scenery of campus. As the sun rises, students walk between buildings, trees sway gently, and the campus slowly comes to life. I often grab a traditional Taiwanese breakfast—sometimes dumplings or another local specialty—before heading to class. It’s a simple routine, but it sets a positive tone for the day.
One of my main goals here is to expand my knowledge and prepare myself to become an energy engineer. I take Mandarin and General Education classes alongside my major courses, which help me grow not only professionally but also culturally. The first class of the day can feel challenging, especially in the morning, but once I’m there, it’s always great to reconnect with classmates and immerse myself in learning.
After class, I like to take a short break. I might grab a coffee at a campus café and head to a quiet study spot, such as the library or near Cheng Kung Lake. These relaxing spaces allow me to recharge and stay focused on my academic goals.
Campus life in Taiwan is not only about studying—it’s also about getting involved. I participate in various activities, from Piano Club to playing soccer with friends. I’ve even joined events like the Hult Prize competition and spent time near the activity center where students gather to dance and celebrate different cultures. One of the things I appreciate most is the incredible variety of clubs and events. There’s always something happening, and I’m constantly discovering new interests.
When it comes to food, Taiwan offers endless choices. My friends and I usually head to the cafeteria or a nearby restaurant for lunch. Whether I’m craving local Taiwanese dishes or something more international, there’s always a satisfying option available.
As evening approaches, I enjoy taking a quiet walk around campus during sunset. After a full day of classes and activities, this peaceful moment allows me to reflect on what I’ve learned and experienced. It reminds me why I chose to study here in the first place.
At the end of the day, back in my dorm room, I often think about how much I’ve grown—not just academically, but personally. Studying in Taiwan has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge, explore new cultures, and build meaningful friendships.
This is my daily life as an international student in Taiwan—challenging, exciting, and full of growth. And for me, it’s more than just earning a degree; it’s about building the future I’ve always dreamed of.
