NTU’s emphasis on industry connections, modern facilities, and practical training convinced me that this was the right environment for my goals.

Choosing Academic Excellence and Opportunity

When I was deciding where to pursue my studies abroad, National Taiwan University immediately stood out as the place where I could grow both academically and personally. One of the main reasons was the scholarship opportunities offered to international students. Coming from the Philippines, studying abroad felt like a distant dream at first, but the financial support I received made it achievable and meaningful. It felt like the university genuinely believed in investing in students who wanted to make a difference.

The university’s academic reputation was another huge factor. I spent months comparing programs across Asia, and this university consistently stood out for its strong curriculum, active research environment, and commitment to academic excellence. What impressed me the most was how the programs strike a balance between theory and application. Studying in Taiwan offers real-world exposure, hands-on learning, and opportunities that would prepare me for my career. The university’s emphasis on industry connections, modern facilities, and practical training convinced me that this was the right environment for my goals.

Taking on Challenges with a Supportive Community

What truly sealed my decision was the campus atmosphere and the culture of the school. Even before arriving in Taiwan, I could feel the warmth from the way staff responded to my emails, to how seniors shared their experiences online. When I finally arrived, those impressions were proven true. The community here is incredibly supportive. Professors are approachable, classmates are collaborative, and the staff genuinely care about student well-being, especially for us international students adjusting to life in Taiwan. Overall, I chose this university because I wanted a place where I could challenge myself academically while still feeling supported, welcomed, and valued. It has become more than just a school, but has become a space where I can grow, discover new opportunities, and build meaningful memories as an international student in Taiwan.

The Call of Biotechnology and Nutrition

My decision to enroll in the Biotechnology and Food Nutrition Program was driven by both passion and vision. I have always been fascinated by how science can be used to improve health, food security, and overall quality of life. When I found a program that combined biotechnology, food science, and nutrition, all taught in a fully English-taught curriculum, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for.

The structure of the program immediately stood out to me. It didn’t just focus on theoretical knowledge but also emphasized practical laboratory skills, hands-on research, and industry-relevant training. I wanted a program that would challenge me to think, experiment, analyze, and problem-solve, and this one offered all of that. From molecular biology to food chemistry and nutrition science, every course felt aligned with the future I wanted to pursue.

A Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Focus

What interests me most is the multidisciplinary approach. Biotechnology and food nutrition are both rapidly evolving fields, and this program prepares us to adapt, innovate, and apply scientific knowledge to real challenges, whether in health, agriculture, food production, or research. I love how the program constantly pushes us to explore new ideas and technologies. What fascinates me most about the program is its hands-on and interdisciplinary approach. From laboratory work to projects, collaborations, and real industry exposure, every semester offers something new to explore. I enjoy how the program encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity. It pushes us to step outside our comfort zones and apply our knowledge in ways that feel meaningful and relevant.

The faculty also deeply influenced my decision. Many of the professors in this program have strong research backgrounds in biotechnology, food innovation, and health sciences. Knowing that I would be learning from people actively contributing to these fields made me excited about the possibilities. Their passion for teaching and willingness to guide students make the learning environment inspiring and motivating.

The bilingual environment has also been a big advantage. It allowed me to adjust smoothly as an international student while still giving me the chance to improve my Mandarin gradually. It’s comforting yet challenging in the best way possible. And of course, the diversity within the program has broadened my worldview. Being surrounded by classmates from different cultures, backgrounds, and academic strengths has made my experience richer. Choosing this program wasn’t just about earning a degree but also about immersing myself in a field that excites me and joining a community that encourages curiosity, creativity, and growth.

My Advice: Say Yes to the Experience

To international students considering studying in Taiwan, my biggest advice is to take the leap – you will grow more than you expect. Taiwan is one of the most welcoming and student-friendly countries I’ve ever experienced. People here are incredibly kind, patient, and always willing to help, even when English is limited. Whether you’re asking for directions, buying food, or adjusting to campus life, you will feel supported every step of the way.

If you are entering a fully English-taught program, don’t worry too much about the language barrier inside the classroom. Professors explain clearly, classmates communicate well, and the academic environment is international-student-friendly. Outside the classroom, learning basic Mandarin will make your daily life easier and more enjoyable. Even knowing simple phrases can open doors to new friendships and experiences.

Academically, be prepared to challenge yourself. Programs like Biotechnology and Food Nutrition require dedication, curiosity, and patience, but they’re incredibly rewarding. Take advantage of the laboratories, research opportunities, and the chance to learn from professors who are experts in their fields. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek help. Everyone here appreciates students who are eager to learn.

Emotionally, allow yourself time to adjust. It’s normal to feel homesick, anxious, or overwhelmed at first. Studying abroad is a big step, but remember that you’re not alone. Make friends, both local and international. Join campus activities, explore Taiwan’s beautiful places, and create small routines that comfort you. These little things will help you feel grounded.

And most importantly, say yes to opportunities. Whether it’s participating in research, attending seminars, joining organizations, or trying new food at a night market. These moments will shape your experience and make your stay meaningful. Studying in Taiwan has taught me independence, resilience, and confidence. It has opened doors I never imagined and allowed me to grow academically and personally. If you are thinking of studying here, take the step. Taiwan might just become one of the most unforgettable chapters of your life. Say yes to this experience. Say yes to the fear, yes to the challenges, yes to the unfamiliar, yes to the growth waiting for you. Because Taiwan will not only teach you, it will transform you. And one day, you will look back and realize that this choice, this leap of faith, was the moment your world became bigger than you ever imagined.
