Pursuing my studies in Taiwan with the support of a government scholarship—and actually living out this dream—has made every challenge along the way completely worth it.

Growing up in Requena, a city in the Peruvian Amazon, I was surrounded by abundant nature and developed ideals about environmental protection. I believe education can change the world, and I always seek places where I can develop to be a great world citizen, sharing good educational practices.

Decision to Study in Taiwan

I decided to study in Taiwan because of the valuable experiences it offers. I had high expectations about Taiwan and found it to be more than I imagined. My goal is to learn as much as I can from Taiwan and share this hidden treasure with the world, promoting study here to develop in an international environment that cares about equal opportunities, healthcare, business, nature, and people’s wellness. I feel committed to making the world better, and pursuing higher education in Taiwan was the best choice for me.

Academic Program and Experience

I am studying for a bachelor’s degree in global business, with subjects like economics, accounting, social problems and adjustments, international marketing, service and entrepreneurship management, and business ethics. I’ve always wanted to study this major abroad in a diverse class. My class has students from approximately 14 nationalities, allowing me to understand different societies and be fair with everyone. The business world needs this global perspective, which we have in Taiwan.

In Taiwan, I have become a competitive swimmer for my university team and a student ambassador of Peru in Taiwan for the International University Sports Federation (FISU). I’ve had the opportunity to swim in Kenting National Park’s unique ocean and explore its coral reef forest. I was also selected by the Forestry Bureau to promote Taiwan’s forests and their protection. Sharing Taiwan’s beauty with the world is my commitment.

Educational Comparison: Peru and Taiwan

The contrast between higher education in Peru and Taiwan is quite significant. In Peru, universities, especially public ones, are not well-equipped. The environment in Peruvian universities varies across regions. In contrast, professors in Taiwan are similar in quality to those in Peru, whom I greatly admire. However, Taiwan offers more well-equipped facilities and a supportive educational environment.

Challenges and Overcoming Them

My greatest challenge in applying to study in Taiwan was leaving my comfort zone. It was not easy to leave my home, friends, and familiar food to start a new journey. However, I believed that stepping out of my comfort zone would lead to growth. Applying to study in Taiwan with a government scholarship and living this dream has been completely worth the challenges.

Benefits from Studying in Taiwan & Future Plans

Studying in Taiwan will significantly benefit my future career. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I’ve realized the importance of equity, sustainability, and business in solving global crises. Taiwan’s effective control of the virus makes it an ideal place to implement projects in these areas. This experience is one of the most beautiful aspects of Taiwan, a place I can call home.

After finishing my studies, I plan to set up a business in Taiwan and continue living here for its convenience and quality of life. However, I also intend to return to Peru to apply what I’ve learned. Taiwan’s strong technology sector and high-quality education in my field are great assets that I want to utilize in both Taiwan and Peru.

Advice for Prospective Students

To those considering studying in Taiwan, don’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone. Taiwan’s welcoming and respectful society, along with its democratic values, will make you feel at home. The intercultural communication and learning experiences here are unparalleled. Embrace the adventure and the beauty of learning in Taiwan.
