Turkey
Taiwan’s safety, democratic spirit, everyday convenience, and warm hospitality toward people from around the world all played a key role in my decision to build my academic career here.
I am from Turkey and arrived in Taiwan in September 2019 with the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship awarded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE). After a year of studying Mandarin, I decided to pursue my master’s degree and got admitted to National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), where I am currently studying International Master of Business Administration (IMBA). Besides, I continue studying Mandarin at my university’s Chinese Language Center. I am passionate about mastering Mandarin and even create YouTube vlog videos in Mandarin, believing it will open many opportunities for me in the future.
Decision to Study in Taiwan
I first visited Taiwan in 2016 and was captivated by its people, food, environment, and culture. This experience motivated me to return and learn Mandarin, the most spoken language. Taiwan’s safety, democratic values, convenience, and hospitality towards people worldwide influenced my decision to pursue my academic career here. I am glad to have made this choice.
Academic Program and Enjoyment
As an IMBA student at NCKU, I am learning various aspects of business management, including marketing, finance, human resource management, entrepreneurship, and management. In the Chinese Language Center, we cover daily, academic, and business language use. However, studying Taiwanese culture and history is what I enjoy the most, as it offers new perspectives and insights far different from my Turkish background.
Educational Comparison: Turkey and Taiwan
I find the teaching quality in Taiwan and Turkey similarly high, having studied at top universities in both countries. The learning environment at NCKU, with its internationalization and excellent facilities, is more advanced than my university in Turkey. These aspects, along with high-quality teaching, have greatly enhanced my educational experience.
Challenges and Overcoming Them
Applying to study in Taiwan was smooth, with clear instructions and a straightforward process. My only personal concern was adapting to the culture and finding suitable food options as a Muslim. However, Taiwan’s convenience, local friends, and the existence of a large Muslim community made the adaptation process quick and easy.
Future Plans
I plan to stay and work in Taiwan after completing my master’s degree. I have grown to love living here and have embraced Taiwanese culture. Furthermore, by the time I graduate, I will have a solid command of the Mandarin language. I feel a sense of gratitude towards Taiwan for the scholarship opportunity and wish to contribute back to the community here.
Career Benefits from Studying in Taiwan
Studying at one of Taiwan’s best universities will offer me excellent career opportunities, not only in Taiwan but globally. Improving my Mandarin language skills daily is crucial for my future aspirations, and being in Taiwan provides the perfect environment for this. I am confident that these experiences will significantly benefit my career.
Achievements in Taiwan
My achievements in Taiwan include improving my language skills, expanding my network, learning about a new culture, and developing confidence. These experiences have broadened my horizons and will continue to benefit me in my future endeavors. I am committed to making the most of my time here and achieving even more.
Advice for Prospective Students
I strongly recommend Taiwan as a study destination. Taiwanese people are welcoming, and the country offers a fantastic educational and cultural experience. I assure anyone considering Taiwan for their education that they will not regret their decision. Taiwan is a place where students can gain invaluable benefits and experiences.
