Academic Experience in Taiwan

I chose to study in Taiwan because of my fond childhood memories of the country. Taiwan’s friendly environment, affordable tuition fees, and strong psychology field were significant factors in my decision. At Tzu Chi University, I study Human Development and Psychology, which encompasses both anthropology and psychology. This combination has enhanced my sensitivity to human issues and my interest in researching them. The most fascinating aspect for me is psychoanalysis and its perspective that “everyone is sick,” highlighting the uniqueness of individuals. My goal is to become a clinical psychologist, and I am particularly interested in understanding and caring for people.

Learning Environment in Taiwan

Taiwan’s educational environment is very welcoming. The mentorship and care I have received at Tzu Chi University have been heartwarming, with professors and administrative staff being exceptionally supportive. The teaching quality in Taiwan is impressive, with educators seriously dedicated to their profession. The mentor system and Cicheng Yide parents’ involvement have created a homely atmosphere, which I greatly appreciate.

Challenges and Opportunities

Applying to study in Taiwan presented challenges, such as understanding the different application channels and scholarship opportunities. However, the guidance from the university’s administrative staff was invaluable in navigating these challenges. I am grateful for their support and advice.

Future Plans and Career Aspirations

My internship experience at Yuli Hospital opened my eyes to Taiwan’s comprehensive mental health care system. This inspired me to contribute to a similar system in Malaysia. I plan to obtain a clinical psychologist license in Taiwan and return to Malaysia to develop the field. My proficiency in Mandarin, English, and Taiwanese languages is a significant advantage in my professional journey. Additionally, I aim to establish a Malaysian Sleep Medicine Association and promote sleep-related mental health in various communities.

Achievements and Growth

Throughout my studies, I have learned the importance of resilience and the value of accepting my imperfections. Engaging with mindfulness therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy has taught me to embrace my flaws and grow from them. I have gained a deep appreciation for positive psychology and its perspective on failure. The support from my family, friends, and teachers has been a constant source of strength.

Advice for Prospective Students

Taiwan is a great destination for foreign students, especially in the field of psychology. The mental health care system is comprehensive, and the country offers solid theoretical and practical training. The safety and friendliness of Taiwan, along with its academic excellence, make it an ideal place for higher education.

Being selected as a national representative of the 110 outstanding youths elite of Taiwan is an honor that validates my hard work and progress over the past four years. This recognition is a significant milestone in my academic and personal journey.
