Vietnam
I especially love the international cultural programs and the wide variety of activities the university offers.
I graduated with a bachelor’s of Business English from Vietnam Commercial University in 2016. Since 2018, I have been studying for a Master’s in Global Finance at National Chung Cheng University. I am quite an introverted person and enjoy being alone. However, meeting new friends from diverse cultures has helped me enhance my experiences and grow my social skills. 2020 might be my last year in Taiwan, so I am using every moment to enjoy it.
Decision to Study in Taiwan
I chose Taiwan for many reasons. As a child, I often watched Taiwanese dramas and shows on Netflix, which sparked my interest in this beautiful and intriguing place. I promised myself to explore Taiwan one day. After graduation, I worked in a Taiwanese company for two years, where my admiration for the Taiwanese people’s dedication to work and success grew. At 24, I decided to challenge myself and go to Taiwan to fulfill my dream.
The quality of education in Taiwan is excellent, with five universities ranking in the top 100 globally. Taiwanese universities offer a variety of scholarships to international students. I was also drawn to Taiwan’s diverse cultural norms, values, and gentle hospitality. Taiwan’s similar culture and living costs to Vietnam, along with my family’s full support, solidified my decision to pursue my master’s degree there.
Academic Program and Experiences
I am enrolled in the International Master’s program in Global Finance at the College of Management, National Chung Cheng University. The program focuses on the practical application of financial, accounting, and economic theories in global financial markets. The courses are mostly taught in English, except for the mandatory Mandarin class. I particularly enjoy the international cultural programs and the diverse activities offered by the university. These experiences have helped me learn more about other countries and make new friends.
Comparisons Between Studying in Taiwan and Vietnam
The study conditions in Taiwan, particularly at National Chung Cheng University, are impressive. The modern facilities, like the well-equipped library, diverse activities, and excellent sports facilities, contribute to a fulfilling study environment. The professors efficiently deliver theoretical and practical knowledge. In comparison, Vietnamese universities are also making efforts to improve their facilities and study environments.
Challenges in Applying for Studies in Taiwan
Transitioning from a major in business English to finance for my master’s was challenging. My undergraduate transcript wasn’t exceptional, and finding a university that would accept me and provide a scholarship was difficult. I managed these challenges by writing a compelling study plan, improving my language skills, and preparing for all possible outcomes.
Future Plans and Career Prospects
Studying in Taiwan will undoubtedly benefit my career. The technical knowledge and improved language skills I’ve acquired will facilitate my work in international environments. My experience in Taiwan will also meet many employer requirements.
After completing my studies, I plan to work for a Taiwanese company with branches in Vietnam, utilizing my language skills and technical knowledge. Living in Taiwan has been enriching, but I also have my family in Vietnam. My focus is on how I can contribute to both Vietnam and Taiwan, regardless of where I stay.
Achievements in Taiwan
I’ve improved my Mandarin and English skills and adopted an international perspective. Learning finance in a language other than my mother tongue has been enlightening. Living in Taiwan has also allowed me to calm down, solve previous problems, make new friends, and experience beautiful things.
