Uzbekistan
Every autumn in Taiwan, the island lights up with glowing moons, rooftop barbecues, and sweet mooncakes, celebrating one of its warmest traditions—the Mid-Autumn Festival.
As an international student from Uzbekistan studying Energy Engineering at National Cheng Kung University, this was my first time celebrating the festival in Taiwan. Even though I’m far from home, joining a rooftop barbecue with my classmates made me feel truly welcomed. The festival is all about reunion and sharing warmth, and that sense of togetherness was something I could genuinely feel.
It was also my first time tasting mooncakes and pomelos. The flavors were unique—sweet, rich, and full of meaning. As we stood together under the bright full moon, I was reminded of something beautiful: no matter how far apart we are, we are all looking at the same moon. In that moment, I felt closer to my family back home.
Studying in Taiwan is more than just academics. It’s about embracing new traditions, building friendships, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival here showed me that even in a different country, you can still find connection, warmth, and a sense of home.
Wishing everyone a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival—from Taiwan, with love.
