Thailand
Every autumn, Taiwan lights up with glowing moons, sizzling barbecues, and sweet mooncakes, celebrating one of its warmest traditions—the Mid-Autumn Festival.
As an international student at National Tsinghua University, this festival has become one of my favorite cultural experiences in Taiwan. From learning the meaning behind mooncakes at an OGA workshop to barbecuing, singing, and playing games under the full moon with friends from NTHU FSA, every moment has been filled with fun and friendship.
In the morning, I usually pick up free mooncakes after receiving an email from the university. Sharing them with friends is always special. Later in the day, we gather for a big barbecue on campus. Grilling food, chatting, laughing, and sitting together under the bright full moon is truly the highlight for me. I also love buying pomelos to enjoy with friends while watching the moon—they’re an essential part of the festival.
Through these celebrations, I feel more connected to daily life and culture in Taiwan. Even though university life can be busy, studying here is not only about books. It’s about living the culture, building friendships, and creating unforgettable memories.
Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in Taiwan has shown me that warmth and connection can be found even far from home.
